A Pin of Gold is shaped by my life spent around art, craft, and fashion. I’m Rebecca “Bex” Graham, and this shop reflects years of living with and learning from beautiful objects — from growing up surrounded by Indian antiques and textiles, to studying classical civilisations, theatre, costume, and fashion history. The name comes from Homer’s Odyssey: Odysseus returning home with his cloak held together by a single pin of gold — small, functional, and quietly precious.

My path winds through backstage theatre and ballet costume departments, fashion studies with a focus on textiles and history, and work alongside designers who valued skilled artisans and thoughtful accessories. After moving back to Southern Africa and stepping away from fashion for a time, antique jewellery re-entered my life during lockdown and felt instantly familiar.

Now based on a farm outside Cape Town, I curate antique and vintage jewellery chosen for its design, craftsmanship, and story. These are pieces that have lived before and are ready to be worn again. I collect them with care, hold them briefly, admire them, and then pass them on — not to keep, but to let them continue their journey with someone new.
