Edwardian Gold & Star Diamond Signet Ring
This early Victorian gold and diamond buckle ring has personality in spades. Crafted in rich eighteen karat gold, it features a hand made buckle motif that feels both bold and surprisingly playful. In the nineteenth century, buckle rings symbolised unity, loyalty, and protection, but today this one reads as confident, a little cheeky, and unmistakably distinctive.
Two lively old cut diamonds sit neatly within the buckle. Star set and full of character, they sparkle with a soft, twinkling glow rather than sharp brilliance. The effect is subtle, charming, and very much of its time. These are diamonds that don’t shout, but they certainly don’t go unnoticed.
The band means business. Measuring eight millimetres wide at the front, it gives the ring a strong presence, then tapers smoothly to two point five millimetres at the back for comfort. It feels solid, balanced, and easy to wear, with smooth edges that show careful hand finishing.
Inside the band, clear hallmarks confirm Chester origin and eighteen karat gold, alongside the maker’s mark RN. The date letter has seen better days, though a faint B remains. This places the ring around either 1821 or 1853, firmly within the early Victorian era and full of lived-in charm.
Buckle rings often marked affection or commitment, but this one feels just as suited to someone who enjoys jewellery with a sense of humour. Honest wear and tiny imperfections add to its appeal.
Timeless yet quirky, sturdy yet symbolic, this Victorian buckle ring proves that good design never takes itself too seriously. It’s a piece with confidence, history, and just enough attitude to stand out.
